If you plan on working as an esthetician in Houston, or any city in Texas, you’ll need to find an accredited school that offers esthetician or skincare specialist training programs. There are several such schools in Houston and the surrounding areas. Skincare specialist programs usually offer certificates, although some student may pursue associate degrees in cosmetology.

The Texas Board of Cosmetology requires that esthetician training programs consist of 750 hours of study; students must also complete an internship to get practical experience performing cosmetology procedures. As an esthetician student, you’ll take classes that teach you nail care, hair removal, makeup application, facial treatments and waxing.

You’ll also learn salon practices, business skills, and safety and sanitation procedures. Once you’ve successfully completed the training, you’ll need to pass the board licensing exam, which consists of a written and a practical exam. After you pass the exam, you’ll receive your license and can begin working in Houston or any city in Texas.
